Can you cover existing skirting boards?
Yes, you can cover existing skirting boards with new skirting or other moulding styles. If your existing skirting is in good condition but looks outdated or damaged, you can simply fit new moulding over the top using adhesive or screws. Another option is to remove the old skirting and replace it with a fresh style of your choice. Just make sure the surface is clean and level before applying any new trim to ensure a secure fit.
If you prefer not to remove your skirting, floor mouldings can be a great alternative, as they are designed to fit neatly against the existing skirting, providing a professional finish.
How to do scotia corners?
To fit scotia corners, you'll need to make angled cuts to ensure the trim fits neatly around corners. The easiest way to do this is by using a mitre saw to cut each piece of scotia at a 45° angle at the corner where the two lengths meet. Be sure to measure accurately, as any gaps or misaligned corners will be visible. Once cut, apply adhesive to the back of the scotia and press it firmly into place. For a clean look, use filler to smooth out any gaps before painting or finishing.
